Mission
To solve real technological challenges and problems, in health, education, the territory and wherever needed, with tools that work, are shared and train the people who build them.
Applied science · R&D and innovation
We were born in the School of Medical Technology at Universidad Austral de Chile, Puerto Montt Campus, and health is still our home. Today we also take on challenges in aquaculture, education and heritage, with artificial intelligence, code and digital fabrication.

Entry no. 1: who we are
TecMedHub is an applied science lab: we do research, development, innovation and science-based entrepreneurship (what Chile calls I+D+i+e), with people from many disciplines who share space, code, printers and questions.
Disciplines living together in the lab
Our work is split into five lines, from artificial intelligence to archaeological heritage. Scroll down a little and our gecko will introduce them.
Mission
To solve real technological challenges and problems, in health, education, the territory and wherever needed, with tools that work, are shared and train the people who build them.
Vision
That nobody in southern Chile has to wait for technology to arrive from elsewhere.

Each part of its body is a line of work. Let's spin it around to see them all.
1 of 5. Big eyes
We train models for all kinds of problems: detecting diabetic retinopathy, tracking eye movements, monitoring parasites on salmon or annotating thousands of images and sounds. Many run on a phone or in the browser, without sending data to the cloud.
Annotix, published in Computers (MDPI) in 2026.
2 of 5. Workshop hands
3D printing, CNC control and parametric design to build custom devices, from splints to lab parts.
ScanEar, awarded in ANID VIU 2026.
3 of 5. Regenerating tail
Like the gecko's tail, heritage regenerates: we digitize fauna, megafauna and archaeological pieces to give them back to the community.
Virtual experience of the Monte Verde collection, presented at its return to Puerto Montt in 2026.
4 of 5. Feet in the south
We work on problems from the Los Lagos Region, from salmon farming health to archaeological heritage.
In charge of objective 3 of the sea lice project (FRDP 2025).

Simulators, interactive atlases and 3D models that any teacher can use without coding.
FisioAccess, awarded in ANID VIU 2026.

And every line is backed by funding.
See awarded projectsEntry no. 3: funding
Yes, we get paid to ask strange questions. Funding from ANID, the Regional Government and our own university: each grant brings new equipment, eager thesis students and the occasional long night.
Entry no. 4: published work
Papers, books and software with a permanent identifier. Tap a number to filter, and copy any citation with one click, no fighting with formats.
Entry no. 5: theses
Degree theses that Medical Technology students wrote in the lab. Complete, in PDF and free: download them, read them and cite them.
The first theses are coming soon.
Entry no. 6: colony census
Medical technologists, engineers, methodologists, biologists and thesis students: every species different, all in the same jar. No duplicates, so you'll have to collect them all.
Thesis students and interns who passed through the lab, left code behind and are now roaming free in the world.
Entry no. 7: freshly observed
News, papers and every new piece of software we upload to Zenodo. That last part shows up on its own: the gecko checks Zenodo for us.

Entry no. 8: photographic record
Half-built prototypes, visits, field trips and the occasional celebration. Tap a photo to see it full size.
Tell us what it's about and we'll figure out how to solve it together. We also welcome thesis students and interns eager to build things.
